By the mid-1960s, four facts had been established beyond reasonable doubt: (1) carbohydrates are singularly responsible for prompting insulin secretion; (2) insulin is singularly responsible for inducing fat accumulation; (3) dietary carbohydrates are required for excess fat accumulation; and (4) both Type 2 diabetics and the obese have abnormally elevated levels of circulating insulin and a "greatly exaggerated" insulin response to carbohydrates in the diet.

Gary Taubes

If you are still eating sugar, bread, pasta, rice, potatoes and other starchy foods, then you are greatly increasing your risk of all the diseases associated with Metabolic Syndrome such as: Hypertension, High Cholesterol, Heart Disease, Obesity, Diabetes and Cancer.

Get off the crack as soon as you can! I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to avoid sugar and carbohydrates. Please read Good Calories, Bad Calories by Gary Taubes and convince yourself to eat a diet rich in protein and fat. Do not be discouraged by the media that will lie to you and tell you how fat is bad. Rest assured eating less carbohydrates will save your life.

"Getting people to change their diets is comparable to getting them to change their religion or their sexual orientation." Greg Glassman

Everybody loves carbs! Sugar is like crack cocaine. No matter how bad it is for you people will still love it, crave it, eat it and justify their doing so. Just remember, "We dig our graves with out mouths."

And just like giving up crack...sometimes you've got to hit rock bottom (i.e., not being able to fit into your clothes) before you admit you've got a problem.

Giving up soda was one of the best things I ever did for myself...unfortunately, Starbucks has Frappucinos that are delicious... I'm not 100% certain there's not crack actually in them. I have traded one addiction for another... smilies/sad.gif Oh... As soon as school starts though, I promise to be better... smilies/sad.gif

Although they say diet sodas are okay for diebetics, there have been numerous animal studies done that suggest otherwise. Animals have a Pavlovian response to sweets. They release an initial wave of insulin in response to the taste something sweet whether it's real sugar or fake sugar.

If the same is true in humans this explains why diet sodas don't actually help anybody lose weight and often make people fatter.

Yes, Frappucinos have Crack in them!
